GCB Bank posts GH¢1.6bn profit for first half of 2026

Ghana Commercial Bank Ltd reported a profit before tax of GH¢1.6 billion for the first half of 2026, a 31 percent increase over the same period last year, as net interest income recovered strongly and loan impairment charges fell following the completion of the domestic debt restructuring.nnThe bank’s net interest income rose 28 percent to GH¢2.9 billion as interest rates on new loans issued after the debt exchange normalised at higher levels while funding costs stabilised. Fee and commission income grew 19 percent, buoyed by strong growth in mobile banking transactions, which reached 45 million in the period.nnNon-performing loans dropped to 11.4 percent of the loan book, down from 16.2 percent in June 2025, as the macroeconomic environment improved and several large corporate borrowers that had been restructured during the crisis resumed performing status.nnManaging Director Kofi Adomakoh described the results as “a clear demonstration of the resilience of GCB’s franchise and the dedication of our 4,200 staff during an extremely challenging period.” The board has declared an interim dividend of GH¢0.48 per share.nnThe bank’s total assets crossed GH¢40 billion for the first time, cementing its position as Ghana’s largest bank by assets. Customer deposits grew 22 percent to GH¢31.6 billion.nnGCB said it plans to open twenty new agency banking locations in rural communities in the second half of the year and launch a digital savings product targeting the informal sector in partnership with MTN Mobile Money.
