Police arrest over 10 students over Okuapeman-Mount Sinai SHS violence

The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested more than 10 students connected to violent clashes between Okuapeman Senior High School and Mount Sinai Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The incidents involved reprisal attacks between students of both schools, resulting in the burning and destruction of several structures on each campus during the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Eastern Regional Police Commander DCOP Joseph Owusu-Bempah stated during an interview that while some students fled when police arrived, their absence would not prevent apprehension. He noted that investigations were ongoing to compile a comprehensive list of all individuals involved in the violence.

Owusu-Bempah disclosed that evidence suggested certain teachers may have encouraged students to participate in attacks. He stated investigators had obtained names of teachers potentially linked to the incident and would pursue action if involvement was confirmed.

At Okuapeman SHS, six students sustained injuries and received hospital treatment. According to the school’s headmaster, four students were treated and discharged, while two remained hospitalised as of Wednesday.

The police commander assured the public that participants would face legal consequences and appealed to students to return to school and cooperate with investigations.
