Stonebwoy gets emotional, breaks into tears during Nsawam Prison performance

Ghanaian dancehall musician Livingstone Etse Satekla, known professionally as Stonebwoy, experienced an emotional moment while performing at Nsawam Medium Security Prison. The incident occurred when he encountered a childhood friend among the inmates.

During a media appearance on April 13, 2026, following a donation event where he and his spouse Dr Louisa presented items to inmates through The Livingstone Foundation, Stonebwoy explained his reaction: “Anytime I go there to visit, I see somebody I grew up with. So it’s not like somebody I just know from the corner, a childhood friend who I grew up with.”

He reflected on the difficult conditions inmates face, noting that “there are pertinent issues on the ground where we all have to be conscious about. Conditions are not as conducive.” He questioned how prisoners survive on minimal wages of GH₵1-3 given rising costs.

Stonebwoy emphasised that his emotional response was genuine rather than performative, attributing it to his empathy for human suffering. He stressed that prisons are not comfortable environments and cautioned that circumstances could lead anyone there, urging wise decision-making.

The artist pledged to organise complimentary annual concerts for inmates, citing his upbringing values of discipline and love that inform his humanitarian work.
